U.S. Rep. Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ) met with local leaders to discuss his infrastructure package to combat climate change, protect the environment, and expand broadband access.

Pallone sponsored a bill in the House last month called the Leading Infrastructure for Tomorrow’s America Act, or the LIFT America Act. The legislation calls for major investments in clean energy, safe drinking water, and environmental revitalization.

“Two of my top priorities are strengthening the economy and combating climate change, and one of the best ways for Congress to address both of these priorities now is by rebuilding and modernizing our nation’s crumbling infrastructure,” Pallone said.

The LIFT America Act will strengthen the economy, Pallone said, by creating jobs and investing in clean energy, broadband, drinking water, and health care infrastructure.

“Last month, President Trump promised to come up with $2 trillion to fund a massive and necessary infrastructure package, but, true to form, he broke that promise last week. It’s time to end the broken promises because, as we heard today, there’s a real need in New Jersey for legislation that will make important upgrades to our infrastructure. I would like to thank everyone who joined us today to discuss the critical need for this kind of legislation and how it would benefit New Jerseyans,” Pallone added.

Among those at the roundtable meeting were Gov. James Florio, New Brunswick Mayor Jim Cahill, Piscataway Mayor Brian Wahler, Middlesex County Freeholder Director Ron Rios, Puerto Rican Action Board CEO José Carlos Montes, Middlesex County Building and Construction Trades Council President Kevin Duncan, New Jersey Sierra Club Director Jeff Tittel, and New Jersey Hospital Association President and CEO Cathy Bennett.

“It is imperative that our communities have access to much-needed resources to thoroughly address the growing issues of climate change, public health, clean water access, and sustainability,” Cahill said. “It is our responsibility as government officials to rise to the challenge of these topics, and this smart legislation sponsored by Congressman Pallone will provide the support we need to continue providing quality of life services for all of our residents.”
