Sen. Murkowski lauds funding agreement meant to advance Alaska LNG project

The Alaska Gasline Development Corporation (AGDC) and the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) have entered into a funding agreement that will further the permitting process for the 800-mile long Alaska LNG project.

Under the terms of the agreement, ExxonMobil and BP will each be responsible for putting $10 million toward that permitting process. Once complete, that project will include a treatment facility, the pipeline, five off-take points for natural gas for in-state residential and commercial use, as well as a liquefaction facility at tidewater.

The move has been hailed by U.S. Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska), chair of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee.

“This is a welcome announcement and an important step for the Alaska LNG project, as they can now have confidence they have the resources to complete the FERC process,” Murkowski said. “I appreciate this commitment and urge all involved parties to work closely with FERC to complete final permit review as soon as possible.”

The LNG project represents the largest infrastructure project in the country in terms of plans and permits.
