Wyoming utility Rocky Mountain Power has kicked off its Energy Vision 2020 initiative, which includes three new wind farms providing a total 1,150 MW of new wind.

Local leaders and community members joined utility personnel for a groundbreaking ceremony in Carbon County, highlighting the Ekola and TB Flats I & II, Carbon County New wind construction and Cedar Springs, Converse County Gateway West Transmission endeavors.

The work will also involve a 140-mile high-voltage transmission line in Wyoming designed to aid wind energy connections to PacifiCorp’s transmission system.

“Today’s achievement is an important milestone in a long history of PacifiCorp’s investment in Wyoming,” Gary Hoogeveen, president and CEO of Rocky Mountain Power, said. “Working in partnership with community leaders and active citizens, we continue to forge new ways to maintain Wyoming’s place as a national powerhouse in energy production.”

Between 1,100 and 1,600 construction jobs will be created in Wyoming under the new projects, adding $120 million in tax revenue from construction while bringing significant post-construction annual tax revenues starting at approximately $11 million in 2021 and growing to $14 million annually by 2024.

Energy Vision 2020 is expected to upgrade Rocky Mountain Power’s existing wind fleet with longer blades and newer technology to boost output and extend the life of the projects.
