Dominion Energy Virginia recently issued two requests for proposals for community solar and small-scale solar projects.

The first RFP will continue the development of the Dominion Energy Virginia’s Community Solar Pilot program, which allows customers to purchase energy from solar facilities located throughout the company’s service territory.

The second RFP encourages developing solar installations of up to one megawatt (MW) in capacity, including rooftop installations with a capacity of at least 50 kilowatts.

Both RFPs seek third-party developers to build projects within Dominion Energy Virginia’s transmission and distribution footprint.

The RFPs will help the company to meet its target of having 3,000 MW of new solar and wind energy in operation or under development in Virginia by 2022. The company has committed to cutting carbon emissions by 55 percent by 2030 and 80 percent by 2050 across the 18 states it serves.

Dominion Energy currently has 30 solar facilities totaling 884 MW of generation in operation or under construction in Virginia. Nationwide, the company has brought more than 1,800 MW of solar into operation across nine states.
