At a gathering of its 24th annual education conference, the Mid-Atlantic Conference of Regulatory Utility Commissioners (MACRUC) officially appointed West Virginia Public Service Commissioner Brooks McCabe, Jr. to be its president.

McCabe, a former state senator and businessman, looks at the new position as an opportunity for his whole state.

“Being in the leadership puts West Virginia in the center of the conversation and allows us to understand the actions of states around us,” McCabe said. “The stronger relationships we have with other states, the better we can assess the issues central to our ratepayers and utilities.”

MACRUC promotes regional advances of public utility regulation and associated regulatory, legislative, and policy interests. It is a regional offshoot of the larger National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners (NARUC), which dedicates its non-profit resources to improving utility regulation and representing the state public utility commissioners that oversee such matters.

“We are proud of Commissioner McCabe, and he will no doubt work tirelessly as President of MACRUC, as he does with everything he undertakes,” PSC Chairman Mike Albert said. “By building a more cohesive connection with surrounding states, he will improve West Virginia’s ability to find workable solutions to the complex utility issues that are on the horizon.”
