More than 21,000 San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E) customers will receive an $850 credit on their bills for adopting electric vehicles (EVs), SDG&E said Monday.
The number of applicants for the EV Climate Credit is 40 percent higher in 2019 as compared to 2018, and the number of EV drivers in the region has increased by 15,000 since 2017, the company said.
SDG&E launched a campaign, which included Facebook ads, Volta charging station ads, emails, press releases and website postings, to encourage EV drivers to apply for the credit.
SDG&E will apply the credit to customers’ bills over the coming months, using up all the 2019 program funds.
The credit is funded by the Low Carbon Fuel Standard Program implemented by the California Air Resources Board (CARB). This is the third year that the credit is available to SDG&E customers, and the bill credit amount has varied each year. Last year, SDG&E distributed $500 to each of the 15,000 EV drivers who signed up for the program.
While 2019 is the last year the credit will be offered, SDG&E noted that work is underway to establish future incentives for EV drivers and that additional details will be shared once programs are approved.
