NRC appoints Petti to Advisory Committee on Reactor Safeguards
The Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) appointed Wednesday David A. Petti to the Advisory Committee on Reactor Safeguards (ACRS) for a four-year term.
The ACRS is a group of experienced technical experts responsible for advising the Commission, independently from NRC staff, on safety issues related to licensing and operation of nuclear power plants, health physics, and radiation protection.
Petti currently serves as a laboratory fellow and chief scientist for The Nuclear Science and Technology Directorate and director of the Nuclear Fuels and Materials Division at Idaho National Laboratory.
Petti has more than 30 years of experience in technology leadership. As principal investigator of nuclear science and engineering materials-related technologies,
Petti also has a joint appointment as an executive director for the Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s study on The Future of Nuclear Energy in a Carbon-Constrained World.
He has published two book chapters and has peer-reviewed numerous journal articles while also being the recipient of multiple awards, including the Lifetime Achievement Award for an Idaho National Laboratory Publisher.
The ACRS membership includes expertise in nuclear engineering, risk assessment, chemistry, facility operations management, severe accident phenomena, materials science and metallurgy, digital instrumentation and control systems, thermal hydraulic and heat transfer, and mechanical, civil and electrical engineering.
