Arizona Public Service Company (APS) said Monday that it plans to request proposals for new solar and wind resources that will together provide up to 400 megawatts (MW) of new generation.

The new resources will expand the APS renewable energy portfolio to approximately 2,500 megawatts (MW) by 2021.

The company plans to issue two Requests for Proposal (RFPs) by Sept. 15. The first RFP will seek proposals for up to 150 megawatts of APS-owned solar resources, which will be in service by 2021. The solar facilities will be designed to enable the addition of energy storage as a future option.

The second RFP will seek up to 250 megawatts of wind resources to enter service as soon as possible but no later than 2022.

Both requests will allow commercial customers to partner with APS to support their sustainability and clean energy goals.

For each RFP, a different independent third-party monitor will review the procurement process.
