Dominion Energy Virginia seeking bidders for 500 MW of solar power

Dominion Energy Virginia is looking for bidders to supply up to 500 megawatts of solar power in both 2021 and 2022.

The utility is soliciting bids for energy, capacity and environmental attributes including Renewable Energy Certificates, for new solar facilities that are at least 5 megawatts in size. The winning proposals must be from companies located in Virginia. The proposals can be for power purchase agreements or the purchase of development projects.

It’s part of Dominion Energy’s plan to have 3,000 megawatts of solar and wind in operation or under development in Virginia by 2022. That would be enough to power 750,000 homes. Dominion Energy owns the fourth-largest solar portfolio among utilities in the U.S. It is committed to reducing carbon emissions by 80 percent by 2050 throughout the 18 states Dominion serves. Increased reliance on solar and wind projects are a major part of achieving those goals.

Bids are due by Aug. 15 with final asset purchase and power purchase proposals due by Oct. 3 and Jan. 16, 2020, respectively. Bidders can get more information on the request for proposals (RFP) on Dominion Energy’s website.

Dominion Energy, headquartered in Richmond, Va., provides electricity and natural gas for about 7.5 million customers in 18 states.
