Lambert Community Solar Center marks next step in Ameren Missouri’s Community Solar program

The Ameren Missouri-owned Lambert Community Solar Center opened its doors this week, the first of numerous planned community solar sites currently proposed by the company.

The Lambert project was tacked onto the St. Louis Lambert International Airport, providing 1 megawatt of energy. It is located just west of the airfield, and the solar panels do their part without taking up airport property. From this site, customers will be able to purchase 100-kilowatt-hour blocks of solar energy for their use, each sold at a predetermined rate.

“Opening the Ameren Missouri Lambert Community Solar Center is one of many steps we are taking toward bringing renewable energy to our customers,” Michael Moehn, chairman and president of Ameren Missouri, said. “Expanding our popular Community Solar program by developing additional solar facilities gives even more of our customers the opportunity to benefit from renewable solar energy and moves Ameren Missouri closer to our goal of providing 100 megawatts of solar energy by 2027.”

The larger Ameren Missouri Community Solar Program, launched last year, has proven to be of great interest to local customers, prompting Ameren to work on developing more facilities. Within 55 days of launch, the program was fully subscribed and now boasts a growing waitlist. For Ameren, the program also fits into a larger renewable push, along with plans to reduce carbon emissions over the next 30 years and ongoing retirement of coal-fired facilities.
