Utah’s Rocky Mountain Power Subscriber Solar Program reaches 95 percent capacity

Rocky Mountain Power’s Subscriber Solar program, which launched in spring, has sold 95 percent of its commercial, industrial, and residential blocks.

The Utah utility’s new solar project is expected to be operating on January 1, providing 20 MW of clean solar energy from the plant near Holden. Rocky Mountain Power has provided an online calculator on its website for residential customers to calculate the potential costs and savings that subscribership would afford them. Considerable savings are anticipated for customers who use large amounts of energy during the summer months, owing to the higher cost of electricity during the high-demand season. The program offers customers  the opportunity to use solar energy if they rent their place of residence, do not want to or are otherwise unable to install solar panels on their roof.

“The Subscriber Solar blocks are selling quicker than anticipated and are only available on a first come, first served basis,” Subscriber Solar Program Manager Keven Hoopiiaina said. “Once the program sells out interested customers can be placed on a waiting list until the next solar plant is built.”

Notable large energy users that  have signed on as early adopters include Salt Lake City Corporation, Park City Municipal, Summit County, AMSCO Windows, Deer Valley Resort, and Weber State University.
