A new book published by the Edison Electric Institute’s (EEI’s) International Programs offers 20 essays on the energy outlook and opportunities in Asia which are authored by foremost experts on the Asian electric power industry.

“Financing Asia’s Electricity Sector 2035: Making It Happen” was released during Singapore International Energy Week at the EEI’s Asian Energy Financial and Investment Conference.

“This book provides a forward-thinking, focused, and, at times, provocative review of the current Asian energy investment climate, which clearly demonstrates new challenges in building and maintaining Asia’s electricity infrastructure,” EEI President Tom Kuhn said. “I want to thank the authors for their time and support, as their knowledge and perspectives are essential to better understanding the current and emerging dynamics of financing energy in Asia.”

The book is divided into four sections, which address the current state of energy in Asia, clean energy, electric power industry reform and capital investment in electricity.

“The need to strengthen the power infrastructure is one major challenge facing Asia: over 450 million people in Asia-Pacific still do not have access to energy,” Chief Executive Ng Wai Choong of the Energy Market Authority of Singapore, said.

“There is also much scope to enhance power connectivity, which will improve the resilience of the region’s power system. All this will require substantial investment: according to the International Energy Agency (IEA), Southeast Asia alone will require about USD 1.3 trillion to meet power demand until 2040,” he said.
