Green Mountain Power (GMP) of Vermont recently announced that it would spend Climate Week — Sept. 20 – 27 — actively supporting projects that reduce carbon emissions in the 15 communities where its offices are located.
This will take the form of support for community initiatives, project development assistance, and increased incentives in the form of higher electric vehicle, heat pump and electric bike rebates. For the whole of that week, GMP will raise EV rebates for low- and moderate-income households up to $500 to $3,000 and up to $2,000 for other customers. In terms of heat pumps, rebates will increase $150 to $650, while e-bikes will see a $50 jump to $250. Electric mowers will similarly benefit, with a new $50 rebate that will continue even after Climate Week has come and gone.
“It is so exciting to see the progress we are making in Vermont in partnership with customers,” GMP President and CEO Mary Powell said. “All working together, we can make a difference in the fight against climate change, while also offering programs that drive down costs for all customers. GMP is proud to partner with communities to assist them with projects to reduce emissions. The students who have led the Global Climate Strike this past year are so inspiring, and we’re proud to do our part to support their message and give back here in Vermont while maintaining great service for all of our customers.”
Beyond these initiatives, GMP is also offering to award communities with 40 trees via an essay contest. GMP would plant said trees for the winner free of charge. Winners will be announced at the kick-off of Climate Week.
