Vectren Energy Delivery of Indiana – North expects lower natural gas bills as compared to last winter
Vectren Energy Delivery of Indiana – North (Vectren), a CenterPoint Energy company, said Tuesday that its customers should expect lower natural gas bills this winter as compared to last winter due to low and stable natural gas prices.
Vectren expects a decrease of five to 10 percent, assuming normal winter weather year-over-year. The average household consuming approximately 670 therms can expect to pay approximately $440 to $450 over the five-month heating season of November through March, the company said.
“While we experienced colder-than-normal temperatures late in the winter season, overall last winter brought fairly normal weather to our area,” Richard Leger, vice president of Natural Gas Distribution, Indiana and Ohio, said. “In the event we experience normal winter weather this heating season, coupled with stable gas prices, customers should see a decrease in their bills.”
Vectren noted that its gas customers who heated their homes with natural gas last year saved up to $885 compared to those who used propane and $385 to $1,220 compared to those who used an electric heat pump or electric furnace, respectively.
The company also noted that it has several tools available to help customers manage their energy bills.
“If customers are experiencing financial hardship and get behind on payments or are in need of financial assistance, there are several options to help manage costs and we encourage them to make contact,” Leger said. “Local community action agencies can further provide assistance and customers should call today and apply for financial and/or home weatherization assistance if needed.”
