Missouri Public Service Commission approves Ameren Missouri electric vehicle charging program
Ameren Missouri recently announced that it received approval from the Missouri Public Service Commission for a program through which the company will bring more electric vehicle charging stations to its service territory.
The program is a component of the company’s $11 million Ameren Missouri Charge Ahead program, which aims to encourage the adoption of electric vehicles.
“More and more electric vehicles are revving up on roads across Missouri,” Pat Justis, Ameren Missouri’s manager of efficient electrification development, said. “Now is the time to invest in the critical infrastructure to support this trend. Bringing more charging stations across our area will help increase adoption of electric vehicles, and that means a cleaner and brighter energy future for our customers.”
As a result of the approval, starting early next year, business owners can apply for incentives to offset the construction costs associated with electric vehicle charging stations.
During the three-year program period, Ameren Missouri anticipates assisting with 1,000 local-level charging stations at more than 350 locations, including workplaces, multi-family residences, and public areas. The local charging stations may be either Level II or DC Fast Charging.
Ameren Missouri also plans to open long-distance travel stations near highways, as approved earlier this year. The company expects to open the first of 11 charging stations by the end of this year and complete all stations by the end of 2020. Each station will feature two DC Fast Chargers and two Level II chargers.
“This is the beginning of a bigger vision,” Justis said. “The communities we serve and everyone in Missouri stand to benefit from a cleaner environment with emission-free vehicles, and Ameren Missouri is leading the way through programs such as this.”
