Shell signs power purchase agreement for 132 megawatts of solar energy

EDF Renewables North America and Shell Energy North America agreed to a 15-year power purchase agreement (PPA) for solar energy.

The 132 megawatts of solar energy will come from Palen Solar’s Maverick 7 Solar Project in Riverside County, California. The agreement is through 2021. The site is located on 3,140 acres of federal lands managed by the U.S. Bureau of Land Management (BLM).

“Palen Solar, with a total of 500 MW of solar capacity, demonstrates EDF Renewables’ long-term commitment to solar development in California. The project uniquely positions the Company to help load-serving entities meet their long-term carbon goals and obligations under California’s Renewable Portfolio Standard (RPS) by offering smaller tranches at industry-leading prices,” Dai Owen, vice president, power marketing for EDF Renewables, said.

Shell will purchase 100 percent of the environmental attributes, including the renewable energy credits and capacity.
