NARUC creates new resource library for electricity planning

The National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners (NARUC) has helped to establish a new resource library for utility pros for comprehensive electricity planning.

The library was created by NARUC and the National Association of State Energy Officials Task Force on Comprehensive Electricity Planning. The library includes presentations and recordings from the task force’s summer webinar series along with other resources that are relevant to comprehensive electricity planning. Additionally, the task force members identified a set of key topic areas that would enable further education on electricity planning.

The Task Force was formed in November 2018 to provide a forum for participants from 12 to 15 states to outline policy and technical needs. Participants develop tools that are available to all NARUC and NASEO members to adapt and refine for use in their states for a more resilient, efficient, and affordable grid.

“One of the goals of the resource library is to help educate our state utility regulators about evolving electricity planning processes,” Co-Chair Jeffrey Ackermann of the Colorado Public Utilities Commission, said. “This resource should greatly aid in aligning state energy planning efforts.”

The library includes resources on a range of topic areas ranging from data access to utility best practices for integrated planning.

“Commission and state energy office participants have been tasked to create innovative and visionary roadmaps using collaborative problem-solving methods,” Co-Chair Laura Nelson of the Utah Office of Energy Development, said. “This is a great starting point for accomplishing that goal.”
