New report outlines notable policy initiatives for clean energy

A new report from the American Council on Renewable Energy (ACORE) examines the most notable policy initiatives across the United States for accelerating the transition to renewable energy.

The report — called Advancing America’s Climate Leadership: Policy Options That Most Effectively Put Renewable Energy to Work – not only outlines the most effective policy options, it also details the specific advantages and limitations of each. It also lays out design recommendations for policymakers to help them optimize their implementation efforts.

Specifically, it looks at policies like establishing a federal high-penetration renewable energy standard (RES) or clean energy standard (CES). Another approach it considers is a technology-neutral tax credit for zero or low-carbon electricity generation. Also, it looks at carbon pricing as well as complementary measures to modernize an antiquated electric grid, among others.

“Through a combination of smart, forward-looking policy tools, we can accelerate the deployment of renewable energy and enabling grid technologies and avoid the worst impacts of climate change,” Gregory Wetstone, president and CEO of ACORE, said. “This analysis is designed to help policymakers identify the quickest pathway to America’s clean energy future with the least disruption, at the lowest possible cost.”

Interested parties can download a copy of the report from ACORE’s website.

ACORE is an organization dedicated to uniting finance, policy, and technology to accelerate the transition to a renewable energy economy.
