Carrigan appointed to serve on NARUC’s critical infrastructure committee
Michael T. Carrigan, commissioner om the Illinois Commerce Commission, was appointed to serve on the National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners Committee on Critical Infrastructure.
Carrigan was nominated by ICC Chair Carrie Zalewski, who previously served on the committee.
“Commissioner Carrigan’s background and expertise make him an excellent fit for this committee,” Zalewski said. “I know Illinois will be well represented by Commissioner Carrigan in the discussions about national security and making sure our energy and telecommunications infrastructures are well- protected.”
This committee, chaired by Pennsylvania Public Utilities Commission Chairman Gladys Brown Dutrieuille, provides state regulators with a forum to discuss utility infrastructure Security.
Previously, Carrigan was president of the Illinois AFL-CIO. Before that, he served as the organization’s secretary-treasurer. He started his career as a journeyman wireman with Decatur-based IBEW Local 146 in 1978. Also, Carrigan served for four terms on the Decatur City Council and was appointed the mayor of Decatur in 2008 to serve out the remaining term of the retiring mayor.
“It is imperative that we stay ahead of potential natural or man-made threats to our nation’s utility and telecommunications infrastructure. I look forward to serving on this committee and participating in discussions with other regulators from across the country to ensure these assets are guarded and safe,” Carrigan said.
