Maine PUC soliciting proposals for solar, distributed projects
The Maine Public Utilities Commission is seeking proposals for the development of solar and other distributed generation projects in the state.
Specifically, the commission is seeking proposals from solar and other renewable energy developers for small scale — less than 5 MW — generation. Those selected will enter into a 20-year contract(s) with either Central Maine Power Company or Emera Maine, depending on the location of the project.
Projects may be either commercial/institutional projects or shared projects. The target amounts for this procurement are 25 MW for commercial/institutional and 50 MW for shared projects.
“We understand the importance of this program as part of the States policy to encourage development of renewable resources and to move Maine toward a cleaner and more sustainable energy future,” Commission Chairman Philip Bartlett said. “There is significant interest from the industry in this procurement process, and we look forward to receiving many competitive bids.”
This stems from a bill enacted in the Maine Legislature last year –- an Act to Promote Solar Energy Projects and Distributed Generation Resources in Maine – which directs the commission to solicit 375 MW of small scale solar and other renewable energy distributed generation resources.
The Maine Public Utilities Commission regulates electric, telephone, water, and gas utilities in the state.
