Vectren begins multi-million-dollar upgrades to gas and service lines in Brownsburg, Indiana

Brownsburg, Ind., is getting an infrastructure makeover as part of Vectren’s pipeline replacement program, with plans underway to invest $3.7 million into the replacement of gas mains and service lines.

This will target approximately five miles of gas main and more than 350 service lines throughout the year, or around 1,300 miles of bare steel and cast-iron pipeline infrastructure. Most will be replaced by a plastic system, starting within the right of way before moving onto service lines running directly to homes and businesses. As part of the project, Vectren will also restore any yards, sidewalks, or streets affected by the construction.

“In 2020, we continue another year of our pipeline replacement program, modernizing our infrastructure and replacing essentially all of our bare steel and cast-iron pipeline throughout our Indiana territory,” Richard Leger, vice president of Natural Gas Distribution for Indiana and Ohio, said. “Focused on continuing to meet federal requirements, Vectren remains committed to strengthening our system to ensure continued reliability and safe delivery of natural gas service to our customers for decades to come.”

Vectren warns that construction could stretch on for weeks at a time and could be affected by individual project size, weather, soil conditions, or other factors. All potentially affected customers will be contacted before construction.
