Tennessee Valley Authority seeking proposals for renewable energy

The Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) is seeking proposals to develop 200 megawatts of renewable energy.

The proposals must be submitted to the TVA by April 24. The authority will announce the selected proposals sometime in the fall of 2020. TVA is planning to bring the renewable energy facilities online by the end of 2023.

Developers can review TVA’s request for proposals and submit bids on the TVA website. TVA officials say the ultimate amount of power contracted will align with TVA customers’ demand for renewable energy.

TVA is a leader in carbon reduction with nearly 60 percent carbon-free energy generation. Renewable energy is one of the main ways that TVA continues to improve its carbon position.

TVA has procured more than 1,300 MW of energy for its customers through similar requests for proposals in 2018 and 2019. Large-scale solar projects cost 80 percent less than private-scale solar, TVA officials said. TVA says it delivers the best value for renewable energy across TVA’s seven-state service territory.

TVA is investing in renewables in response to customer demand for cleaner energy and economic development opportunities to attract companies with sustainability goals.

The Tennessee Valley Authority provides electricity for business customers and local power companies serving 10 million people in parts of seven southeastern states, including Alabama, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, North Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia.
