BGE wins the Energy Star Partner of the Year award from EPA, DOE

Baltimore Gas and Electric (BGE) won the Energy Star Partner of the Year – Sustained Excellence Award from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE).

The Energy Star Partner of the Year – Sustained Excellence Award is the highest honor that can be bestowed on a company by the EPA and DOE. It recognizes organizations that have received the Partner of the Year award more than three times and continues to surpass previous achievements in energy efficiency. BGE has won the Partner of the Year award 10 times

“We truly appreciate the way our customers have embraced these programs and are honored to be recognized by the EPA and DOE for the tenth year in a row for our efforts to provide BGE customers with the ability to manage their energy use more efficiently” Laurie Duhan, manager of energy efficiency portfolio for BGE, said. “This award highlights the prudent energy choices our customers are making, and we are pleased to accept this award on their behalf.”

BGE customers will save more than $5.3 billion through the BGE Smart Energy Savers Program. Customers have reduced their electricity use by 4.6 billion kilowatt hours since 2008. This is the equivalent of eliminating approximately 3.3 million metric tons of greenhouse gases from the atmosphere.

“I applaud BGE’s 2020 ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year—Sustained Excellence Award,” EPA Assistant Administrator for Air and Radiation Bill Wehrum said. “The company’s innovation and leadership enhance America’s economic competitiveness. Reducing costly energy waste improves air quality and public health while protecting the environment.”

BGE is Maryland’s largest natural gas and electric utility, serving more than 1.3 million electric customers and 680,000 natural gas customers.
