The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) provided an update to state officials on its actions to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic.

FERC Chairman Neil Chatterjee and staff officials informed National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners, the National Association of State Energy Officials, and the National Governor’s Association that FERC remains fully functional with more than 1,400 employees working remotely. Despite drastic changes in the work environment, employee morale remains high.

Chatterjee and the President of NARUC, Commissioner Brandon Presley, expressed their gratitude for the work of those involved in the industry. They highlighted the importance of continued collaboration between state and federal regulators in responding to the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Caroline Wozniak, FERC’s Pandemic Liaison and Senior Policy Advisor with the Office of Energy Market Regulation, also discussed how the Pandemic Liaison team is responding to industry concerns.

Further, Aileen Roder, Attorney Advisor to the Director of the Office of Energy Policy and Innovation, said her office continues to work on rulemakings, engage with market monitors, and plans to continue to host virtual technical conferences.

Finally, Larry Parkinson, Director of the Office of Enforcement, said all of FERC’s enforcement capabilities remain fully functional.

Chatterjee said he expects to host more of these conference calls to provide further updates and to discuss areas of mutual interest as the pandemic continues.
