Florida Power & Light Company (FPL) recently opened six new solar energy centers with four more scheduled to launch in May.

These 10 new solar centers represent 745 megawatts solar capacity, which is enough to power 150,000 homes. It is part of the company’s commitment to installing 30 million solar panels by 2030.

“As all of us navigate through this uncertain time together, FPL can’t lose focus on finding new, innovative ways to deliver an even cleaner, more sustainable energy future. It’s what our customers expect us to do, and it’s simply the right thing for our state and will ensure that our children and grandchildren can enjoy Florida for generations to come,” Eric Silagy, president and CEO of FPL, said. “Our solar expansion will continue to generate environmental benefits, create needed jobs, and save our customers money while making the Sunshine State a leader in solar energy.”

These new solar energy centers are the first of 20 total that will be built through the company’s community solar program called SolarTogether, which allows all customers to go 100% solar.

The new six completed centers are the Babcock Preserve Solar Energy Center, Charlotte County; Blue Heron Solar Energy Center, Hendry County; Cattle Ranch Solar Energy Center, DeSoto County; Northern Preserve Solar Energy Center, Baker County; Sweetbay Solar Energy Center, Martin County; and Twin Lakes Solar Energy Center, Putnam County.

The four coming online on May 1 include Echo River Solar Energy Center, Suwannee County; Hibiscus Solar Energy Center, Palm Beach County; Okeechobee Solar Energy Center, Okeechobee County; and Southfork Solar Energy Center, Manatee County.

FPL will complement its solar expansion by adding 1,200 MW of battery storage over the next decade. FPL currently operates 24 solar power plants.
