Ameren Missouri expands community solar program

Ameren Missouri is expanding its Community Solar program, which allows residential and small business customers to get solar energy without installing solar panels on their properties.

The company got approval from the Missouri Public Service Commission (PSC) to build a second Ameren Missouri Community Solar program. Through the program, customers can sign up to purchase 100-kilowatt-hour blocks of solar energy generated at Ameren Missouri’s Community Solar facilities.

“The Community Solar program has clearly resonated with customers who are passionate about supporting and growing clean, renewable energy in Missouri,” Marty Lyons, chairman and president of Ameren Missouri, said. “The Community Solar program is just one of the ways we’re bringing more clean energy to our state.”

The first community solar facility was built in 2019 near St. Louis Lambert International Airport. This expansion reflects a growing appetite for renewable energy among customers, Lyons said.

“Community Solar is just one of the many renewable energy-focused options we’re offering customers,” Matt Forck, vice president of community, economic development, and energy solutions at Ameren Missouri, said. “From our largest industrial customers and municipalities to small businesses and residential customers, there is an option to join with Ameren Missouri to support renewable energy.”

This is part of Ameren Missouri’s Smart Energy Plan, which includes thousands of clean energy infrastructure projects throughout the state. Ameren Missouri provides power to 1.2 million electric and 132,000 natural gas customers in central and eastern Missouri.
