ComEd has pushed the final date for a systemwide suspension on disconnects, late payment charges, and reconnection fees through to July 1 to extend bill assistance for its customers.
The Illinois company likewise has asked all customers affected by the COVID-19 pandemic to reach out for assistance with other flexible options. Even those whose electric service was disconnected for non-payment before March 13 can contact its customer care team and have their service safely restored for the time being.
“As the state carries out its plan to reopen businesses in a safe and responsible way, we recognize that it may be some time before many of our customers can get back on their feet,” ComEd CEO Joe Dominguez said. “Connecting customers with assistance options tailored to their needs is at the heart of our commitment to support our communities. The last thing we want is customers worrying about being without power.”
For the duration of the COVID-19 crisis, the company is offering both financial assistance and flexible payment options for eligible customers, specifically to reduce their budgetary burdens. Customers can, instead of the usual alternatives, also turn to options like budget billing, which instead averages their payments over a year, so make their monthly energy burden less intense.
