LG&E and KU Energy’s vp of Transmission and Generation Services Voyles to retire

John Voyles, vice president of Transmission and Generation Services at LG&E and KU Energy plans to retire in March 2017 after nearly 41 years with the company.

Scott Straight, director of project engineering, will be promoted to vice president of project engineering effective April 1, 2017. Straight will report to David Sinclair, LG&E and KU vice president of Energy Supply and Analysis.

“Having spent his entire career at LG&E and KU, John’s experience has been invaluable to our company,” said Victor A. Staffieri, LG&E and KU chairman, CEO and president. “His vast knowledge of our plants, as well as carbon and other environmental regulations, have been important in helping us, and the industry, address the challenges of supplying energy in an ever-changing regulatory environment.”

Over his 41-year career with LG&E and KU Energy, Voyles led the company through various key initiatives. Voyles helped start the Cane Run 4 wet flue gas desulfurization system, became the operating liaison on startup of all four of Mill Creek scrubbers, and testified in various environmental cases for the company.

Voyles represented LG&E and KU Energy in front of the Kentucky Public Service Commission by testifying on behalf of the company regarding the utilities’ largest construction phase in history including upgrades to each plant and the construction of Cane Run 7. Voyles testified twice in 2012 in front of the House Energy and Power Subcommittee regarding the impact of the carbon legislation on coal-fired generation on the company’s ability to use and research carbon.
