Oklahoma Gas & Electric (OG&E) announced this week that it distributed $7.5 million in energy efficiency incentives to businesses, schools and government buildings in 2016.

The projects involved 750 organizations and led to 80 million kWh of energy savings.

OG&E, a subsidiary of Oklahoma city-based OGE Energy Corp, paid almost $650,000 in incentives to secondary schools and approximately $365,000 to universities.

“The incentive checks are a fantastic bonus for schools that are already trying to shave costs where they can,” said Ken Grant, OG&E vice president of sales and marketing. “In addition to that, their electricity bills will go down due to the energy savings they achieved with the projects. Then, if they’re enrolled in SmartHours for Schools, they save even more.”

One school district, Moore Public Schools, received $90,000 in rebates and saved more than 1 million kWh through energy-saving projects. The SmartHours for Schools program has led to a savings of more than $2.2 million for Oklahoma schools since its inception in 2012.

Moore Public Schools is grateful for the financial incentive provided by OG&E used to offset the cost of new energy efficient products within many of our schools,” said superintendent Robert Romines. “The incentive not only provides immediate financial reward, but the future energy savings will be valuable for many years.”
