Entergy New Orleans brings largest commercial rooftop solar project to Louisiana
A 2.4 MW solar project went online in New Orleans this week care of Entergy New Orleans, bringing to fruition Louisiana’s largest commercial rooftop solar project.
Consisting of around 7,000 solar panels, the project covers nearly 240,000 square feet of rooftop space on TCI’s warehouses near the Inner Harbor Navigation Canal. The systems there feed clean energy into Entergy’s electric distribution grid that all its customers utilize. The effort will both expand Entergy’s clean energy offerings and reduce TCI’s carbon footprint.
“This project demonstrates our ongoing commitment to delivering clean, reliable, and safe energy to New Orleans while simultaneously achieving our customer’s sustainability goals. Projects like this create value to the local community through job creation, and to the environment through carbon reduction,” said David Ellis, president and CEO of Entergy New Orleans. “We continue to look for opportunities to innovate as we work to achieve our overall sustainability objectives for the region.”
The new operation comes shortly after Entergy New Orleans finished the construction of its 100th residential rooftop solar panel installation. It is still pursuing additional sites for panels, including buildings owned by educational institutions, government entities, and nonprofit organizations in Orleans Parish.
The energy produced will help green and diversify power sources for more than 200,000 customers in the area.
