Dominion Energy launches rebate programs to aid electric vehicle adoption in Virginia

In an effort to accelerate the adoption of electric vehicles in Virginia, Dominion Energy launched a rebate program this week for charging stations in a variety of locales and announced plans for a residential plan to launch early next year.

Dominion Energy Virginia’s Smart Charging Infrastructure Pilot Program currently provides offerings to multi-family communities, workplaces, transit bus depots, and fast-charging locations. Infrastructure, chargers, and network fees can benefit from the rebates, which could amount to anywhere from $2,000 to more than $50,000 per project.

“We believe electrification isn’t just the future of transportation. We’re powering it in Virginia right now,” Ed Baine, senior vice-president of Power Delivery, said. “Soon, parents in Fairfax will be able to send their children to school on an electric school bus, commute to the metro station on Virginia’s first autonomous electric shuttle and charge their electric vehicle while running errands around town.”

Dominion hopes the project will help reduce public transportation emissions, particularly through electric school buses and autonomous electric shuttles. It also supports a larger goal to reach net zero carbon and methane emissions by 2050. Dominion’s 10-year Grid Transformation Plan aims to modify the region’s energy grid and build on both reliability and renewables access.
