NV Energy gets approval for one-time bill credit for customers

NV Energy got approval from the Public Utilities Commission of Nevada (PUCN) to provide a one-time credit for its southern Nevada customers.

The $120 million credit will result in a $107.25 credit for the average single-family residential customer. The bill credit will be applied to all southern Nevada customer bills starting Oct. 9.

“This is great financial news for our customers, and will provide immediate bill relief, especially to those who are struggling financially due to the pandemic,” NV Energy President and CEO Doug Cannon said. “We appreciate the work of the PUCN Regulatory Operations Staff, Bureau of Consumer Protection and other stakeholders to achieve this historic outcome that lowers energy costs for our southern Nevada customers and will help drive Nevada’s economic recovery.”

The PUCN will decide later this month if it will implement an ongoing rate reduction for southern Nevada customers. An ongoing rate reduction is supported by NV Energy, the regulatory operations staff, the Bureau of Consumer Protection, and other stakeholders. If that is approved, southern Nevada customers will experience a rate decrease starting in January 2021. The average single-family residential customer would receive a monthly bill reduction of $4.96.
