In the third quarter of 2016, PECO completed nearly 1,200 projects to improve natural gas and electric service to Pennsylvania customers.

PECO spends $500 million each year on infrastructure improvements and plans to invest $275 million
more over the next five years to strengthen the local electric system and install advanced equipment.

Almost 1,000 of the improvements were natural gas projects and included equipment inspections, repairs, replacements and preventative maintenance. During the third quarter, PECO inspected 913 miles of natural gas main, replaced more than 42,000 feet of gas main and inspected more than 3,400 valves.

PECO completed more than 200 electric projects, including preventative and corrective measures. The company installed 20 reclosers, which are designed to prevent outages by shutting off electricity if a line becomes damaged and then attempting to restore power if possible. PECO also installed new reinforced electric lines, which are more resistant to falling trees and tree limbs.

“Ensuring safe and reliable natural gas and electric service for our customers is our top priority,” Mike Innocenzo, PECO senior vice president and COO, said. “The work we do day-in and day-out is essential to meeting the energy needs of our customers, and this ongoing, proactive work is essential to improving service for our customers.”
