Alliant Energy adds 150 MW Kossuth Wind Farm to Iowa portfolio

In north-central Iowa, Alliant Energy brought a new, 150 MW wind farm known as Kossuth online this week, bringing 56 turbines to bear to power 57,000 homes.

The project, which has been underway since October 2019, marks an important milestone for Alliant: it has now added 1,000 MW of wind energy options for its customers. It joins efforts at Bent Tree Wind Farm near Albert Lea, Minn., and Cedar Ridge Wind Farm in Eden and Empire, Wis.

“Developments in renewable wind energy create a cleaner environment for all to enjoy. We are excited about our investment and increased commitment to Kossuth County,” David de Leon, president of Alliant Energy’s Wisconsin energy company, said. “This project will support the community through lease payments to landowners and increased tax revenue. Wind is cost-effective and has no associated fuel cost, resulting in long-term savings for our customers as we continue to deliver reliable and affordable energy.”

Alliant intends to end its CO2 emissions entirely as of 2050. Beyond wind power, the company’s Clean Energy Blueprint to achieve this calls for adding 1,000 MW of solar to Wisconsin by the end of 2023.
