Entergy Louisiana purchases power from 50 MW Capital Region Solar facility

Looking to bolster its solar offerings in the state, Entergy Louisiana has begun purchasing power from the 50 MW Capital Region Solar facility in West Baton Rouge Parish, the largest solar facility in Louisiana.

This agreement locks Entergy Louisiana into a partnership with Helios Infrastructure that will last for 20 years after going into effect on October 9. Capital Region Solar is a 197,000-panel farm stretching approximately 500 acres. It was originally built by DEPCOM power and can offset the equivalent of nearly 19,000 passenger vehicle emissions per year.

“Capital Region Solar is the latest addition to what we envision to be a growing portfolio of clean-energy resources serving our customers,” Phillip May, president and CEO of Entergy Louisiana, said. “We are committed to delivering clean, reliable, and affordable energy to our communities, and this project helps us do just that.”

The plant adds to Entergy Louisiana’s existing 190 MW of renewable resources, which are part of its emissions strategy launched in 2019. That strategy calls for cutting its carbon emission rate by 50 percent below 2000 levels by 2030. It also seeks to reach net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.
