NV Energy executive takes on key industry leadership role at EEI

NV Energy and Edison Electric Institute (EEI) announced earlier this week that Tony Sanchez, senior vice president of government and community strategy at NV Energy, accepted a key loaned executive role at EEI in Washington D.C.

EEI represents U.S. investor-owned electric companies that operate in all 50 states and also has over 60 international companies and various industry organizations as members.

NV Energy provides about 1.3 million regular customers with electric and natural gas service in Nevada and is a subsidiary of Berkshire Hathaway Energy. Greg Abel, chairman, president and CEO of Berkshire Hathaway Energy, will become the EEI board chair in 2019.

“I look forward to welcoming Tony to Washington,” EEI President Tom Kuhn said. “His hands-on experience in state regulatory and legislative affairs will be incredibly valuable to our EEI team and to all of our member companies.”

Sanchez has served in other roles at EEI, most recently representing NV Energy on the External Affairs Executive Advisory Committee.

Sanchez obtained an undergraduate degree in political science from the University of Nevada and a law degree from Arizona State University. He then served as associate legislative counsel for energy and natural resource issues for former Sen. Richard H. Bryan (D-NV). Later, he took on the roles of assistant general counsel for the Public Utilities Commission of Nevada and executive assistant to Nevada Governor Bob Miller. He then worked with Jones Vargas, a Nevada law firm before beginning his career with NV Energy in 2007.

“While we will miss him, the opportunity to grow his career with Berkshire Hathaway Energy and EEI is exciting, and we wish him well,” Paul Caudill, president and chief executive officer of NV Energy, said.
