AEP Energy Partners seeks proposals for new Ohio, ERCOT solar and wind projects

AEP Energy Partners (AEPEP), based in Columbus, Ohio, reached out for wind and solar proposals this week, asking for ideas for off-take from new renewables facilities in both Ohio and the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) region.

AEPEP, a subsidiary of American Electric Power, which oversees the nation’s largest electricity transmission system, is looking for support to meet growing loads in both regions, but in Columbus in particular, owing to the recently passed City of Columbus Electric Service Aggregation Program, which seeks major green expansion within just a few years. These efforts can, therefore, be split into two categories.

For Ohio projects, AEPEP is eying renewable energy purchase agreements lasting 10, 12, or 15 years. Any facilities involved will need to be wind or solar based and begin operations between 2021 and 2023. For projects located in Texas, the company is likewise seeking renewable energy purchase agreements, specifically for periods of 12 years or less. Like their Ohio counterparts, these will need to begin operation between 2021 and 2023. AEPEP indicated an openness to alternative terms in Texas, however.

For bidders in both Ohio and Texas, a notice of intent will be needed by AEPEP by Nov. 13, 2020. The proposals themselves will be due no later than 5 p.m. on Nov. 23, 2020. They must be submitted by email.
