Under a new power purchase agreement between Dominion Energy Virginia and Savion, LLC — which still requires approval from the Virginia State Corporation Commission — Dominion will purchase 75 MW of renewable power from upcoming Savion’s Wythe County Solar Project.

The $133 million southwest Virginia solar project should begin construction in mid-2021, with power production to begin by the end of 2022. While representing the fourth Savion project in Virginia for Dominion Energy, the purchase will also mark forward momentum on its drive to net zero carbon dioxide and methane emissions by 2050, along with plans to expand renewable energy options.

“The Wythe County Solar Project PPA marks the second agreement Savion has signed with Dominion Energy,” Diana Scholtes, chief commercial officer for Savion, said. “We remain focused on our Virginia solar energy development to assist Dominion Energy in reaching its clean energy goals, which serves as a leading contributor to the state’s advancing renewable energy market.”

To date, Savion has invested more than $285 million into solar power operations in the state. Such solar operations are beginning to form a major part of Dominion’s strategy for moving forward, according to Emil Avram, vice president of business development. Dominion Energy currently provides power or natural gas to more than 7 million customers in 16 states.

“We’re pleased to work with partners like Savion to advance solar development in Virginia, create jobs, and add more sustainable energy sources to the grid,” Avram said.
