Versant Power, headquartered in Bangor, ME., recently announced the placement of John Flynn as the new president of the company.

Flynn replaces Mike Herrin, the former president and CEO who announced last year that he would be departing at the end of 2020. Flynn took office effective Nov. 30 but will remain with Versant through the end of the year to help with the transition.

Flynn joins Versant Power from Vermont Electric Co., where he led the strategy and public affairs team. Before that, he served as global head of strategy and development and senior vice president of strategy and development with National Grid. Flynn has also held leadership positions within American Transmission Company and American Electric Power. Overall, he has more than 30 years of industry experience with utilities.

“I am very pleased to join the dedicated and talented team at Versant Power, and look forward to getting to know the team, our valued customers, and our many important stakeholders as we continue to deliver essential electricity services to the communities of eastern and northern Maine,” Flynn said. “I want to take this opportunity to recognize Mike Herrin for his legacy of leadership and commitment to safety and service. Through his efforts and that of the entire team, Versant Power is poised to continue to serve the state of Maine well with an unwavering focus on safety, reliability and enabling Maine’s exciting energy future.”

Flynn graduated from Fairfield University with a bachelor’s degree in accounting. He also attended the University of Michigan School of Business and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s Sloan School.

“I’m tremendously proud of the Versant Power team as we have remained focused on safely delivering service to our customers in these unprecedented times,” Herrin said. “It has been an honor to serve our customers and contribute to the future of the great state of Maine. As the company moves forward, I am confident that under John’s leadership, Versant Power’s commitments to our customers and communities will continue to be delivered on, and I look forward to partnering to ensure a smooth transition ahead.”

Versant Power is Maine’s second-largest electric utility, providing service to 159,000 customers in eastern and northern Maine.
