Madison Gas and Electric releases Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability Report
Madison Gas and Electric (MGE) released its annual Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability Report, which includes details on its clean energy initiatives and progress toward sustainable energy goals, as well as the company’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic, among other initiatives.
“MGE is committed to corporate responsibility, to environmental leadership, and to a more sustainable energy future for the benefit of our customers, investors, and the broader community,” MGE Chairman, President and CEO Jeff Keebler said. “By working with customers to decarbonize our energy supply, advance energy efficiency, and electrify transportation, we can meet our goal of net-zero carbon by 2050. If we can go further faster through the use of new technologies and partnerships with our customers and communities, we will.”
Regarding the COVID-19 pandemic response, the report details how the company has fulfilled its commitment to customers while providing safe and reliable service and contributed to local relief efforts.
It also features an analysis of the company’s net-zero carbon goal by the University of Wisconsin-Madison’s Nelson Institute for Environmental Studies. The analysis determined that MGE’s goal is in line with or more aggressive than these model benchmarks for climate solutions. MGE expects to achieve carbon reductions of 65 percent by 2030 and net-zero carbon by 2050.
Also, it highlights the rapid development of clean energy projects in the state, including 100 megawatts (MW) from the Badger Hollow Solar Farm and 50 MW from Two Creeks Solar. There are also several solar projects in the Madison area.
Further, it details MGE’s residential and commercial customer programs to help customers use energy more efficiently as well as its commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. In addition, it highlights the partnerships the company has formed to electrify transportation and grow the use of electric vehicles.
MGE provides electricity to 155,000 customers in Dane County, Wis., and natural gas to 163,000 customers in seven Wisconsin counties.
