Indiana Michigan Power plans transmission grid improvements for Fort Wayne in 2022
Beginning next year, Indiana Michigan Power (I&M) intends to update the electric transmission grid in northeast Fort Wayne, Ind., through line upgrades and substation improvements.
With plans to finish sometime in 2023, the Robison Park-Lincoln Transmission Line Rebuild Project would involve around 8 miles of electric transmission line and improvements to the Trier Substation. Power lines running through the existing right-of-way would be rebuilt, swapping out deteriorating towers from the 1920s with new steel monopoles. According to the company, such monopoles would also have the benefit of a smaller footprint on the area.
All in all, I&M intends this as a means of bringing that area up to current structural standards. It will also improve the line’s performance and reduce the frequency of repairs.
Planning is still underway, though, and as such, I&M intends to meet with landowners and community members to discuss the project. Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, it will do so through a virtual open house.
