Ameren Missouri to begin construction on its largest solar facility yet this summer

Spurred by more than 2,000 Missouri residents signing up for the company’s Community Solar program, Ameren Missouri announced this week that it will begin building its largest ever solar facility this summer, a 6 MW project in Montgomery County.

Work is expected to move quickly, beginning in summer but going online by the end of the year. Located an hour west of St. Louis, the new facility will be Ameren’s second site built as part of its Community Solar program. That program allows customers to sign up to receive up to half of their energy from clean, renewable sources without having to install solar equipment on their own property or incur significant costs upfront.

“We’re excited to support thousands of Ameren Missouri customers in their desire to receive up to half of their energy from Missouri-based clean energy,” Matt Forck, vice president of community, economic development, and energy solutions at Ameren Missouri, said. “The Community Solar program is just one of the ways Ameren Missouri is delivering programs and services our customers value while also reducing emissions and meeting Ameren’s carbon reduction goals.”

The Montgomery County facility will also aid Ameren’s goal of reaching net-zero carbon emissions by 2050. Along the way, the company intends to reduce carbon emissions by 50 percent by 2030 and by 85 percent by 2040, compared to 2005 levels.
