NRC names new resident inspector for Beaver Valley Nuclear Plant
Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) officials recently named Stacey Horvitz the new resident inspector at Beaver Valley Power Station in Shippingport, Pennsylvania.
“Stacey Horvitz’s experience, training and commitment to safety will help the NRC fulfill its mission of protecting people and the environment by ensuring Beaver Valley meets the high standards set by the NRC,” Region I Administrator Dan Dorman said.
Horvitz joined the Region I office in August 2013. Most recently, she held the role of Region I emergency response coordinator. Horvitz has served as acting resident inspector at three facilities in the Northeastern United States.
She graduated from the University of Pittsburgh with a degree in mechanical engineering and also completed the NRC’s Nuclear Safety Professional Development Program and an inspector qualification program.
Horvitz joins Senior Resident Inspector Jim Krafty at Beaver Valley, a two-unit site operated by FirstEnergy Nuclear Operating Company.
Resident inspectors monitor facilities’ daily operations, conduct inspections, monitor significant work projects and interact with plant workers and the public on behalf of the NRC. Every commercial nuclear power plant site in the United States has at least two resident inspectors.
