Consumers Energy launches PowerMIFleet program, offering electric vehicle expertise and $3M in rebates

Michigan’s largest energy provider, Consumers Energy, is doubling down on its electric vehicles push with a new program that will see it provide consultation services and $3 million in rebates for charging locations.

Businesses, governments, and school systems alike will be able to benefit from the PowerMIFleet program if they are interested in electrifying their fleets and charging overnight. The program enhances efforts already underway through the PowerMIDrive program, which sought to simplify EV cost savings by offering time of use rates for drivers and more than 800 rebates for residential, business, and public charging stations. That program has been running for two years now.

“Michigan was the birthplace of the American auto industry. Now, we are the center of the industry’s clean energy revolution,” Lauren Youngdahl Snyder, Consumers Energy vice president for customer experience, said. “With PowerMIFleet, we at Consumers Energy are taking our success with EVs to the next level, making it easier for other businesses to join us on this Clean Energy journey. Consumers Energy will connect Michigan businesses, local governments, and school bus fleets with the planning resources, expert guidance, and financial incentives to easily and cost-effectively transition to electric vehicles.”

Combined, Consumers wants its programs to help kick off 200 fast-charging locations and more than 2,000 chargers for homes and businesses in Michigan over the next three years. This will coincide with the company’s Clean Energy Plan, which calls for the eventual elimination of coal usage and energy waste while adding more renewable energy sources and attaining a carbon-neutral grid.
