SWEPCO launches three requests for proposals for renewable, short-term generation

American Electric Power subsidiary Southwestern Electric Power Co. (SWEPCO) issued three requests for proposal this week for solar, wind, and short-term generating capacity to better meet supply needs.

The company is seeking project bids by Aug. 12 that are capable of serving its customers in Louisiana, Texas, and Arkansas. It has solicited bids for the purchase of up to 3,000 MW of wind resources, up to 300 MW of solar resources, and up to 250 MW of short-term accredited deliverable capacity.

Each comes with its own requirements, though. Any wind resource bids must be a minimum of 100 MW and interconnected to the Southwest Power Pool (SPP). They must also be located in one of six states: Arkansas, Louisiana, Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, or Missouri. For solar bidders, projects must be a minimum of 50 MW and interconnect to SWEPCO’s transmission system through SPP, as well as be located within SWEPCO service territory.

Short-term capacity proposals must meet a minimum of 50 MW capacity from SPP resources.

Any projects selected through this process will then be subject to regulatory approval.
