NRG releases study on organizations’ plans to electrify their fleets

NRG Energy recently published a study examining the transition for organizations to electrified vehicles away from fossil fuels.

The study, done in collaboration with Smart Energy Decisions (SED), is called The State of Vehicle Fleet Electrification. For the study, the company’s interviewed more than 200 organizations regarding their vehicle fleet electrification plans and how decarbonizing transportation supports their sustainable goals.

The study found that sustainability and environmental goals were among the top customer priorities driving fleet electrification. While environmental drivers were the top priority, cost remains a consideration, especially among commercial operators. Compliance and evolving technology were other significant factors.

Specifically, the study found that an overwhelming 86 percent of respondents expressed some level of interest in fleet electrification. However, it revealed that organizations are at different phases of adoption, even with fleet electrification goals gaining momentum. While there was great interest in adopting all-electric vehicles, more than 50 percent of survey respondents reported some indecision and may plan to switch a small percentage of their fleet within the next five years.

NRG, which brings energy to millions of customers in the United States and Canada, recently adopted its own goal to convert 100 percent of its light-duty fleet of vehicles to all-electric by 2030.
