UGI, Global Common Energy to develop another renewable natural gas project in NY
Cayuga RNG Holdings, a joint venture between UGI Energy Services, a subsidiary of UGI Corp., and Global Common Energy, is developing another renewable natural gas (RNG) project in upstate New York.
The project announced on Sept. 7 will be located at Allen Farms in Cayuga County in the Finger Lakes region of New York. This is the second RNG project the Pennsylvania-based company is developing in the region. The other is at Spruce Haven, which is located about five miles away from Allen Farms.
Allen Farms will supply Cayuga RNG with dairy waste that will serve as the feedstock for renewable natural gas. The new project incorporates an existing anaerobic digester that generates biogas, which is used to produce renewable electricity. The project is expected to be completed in the second half of 2022.
“We are very pleased with our expanding opportunities in the Finger Lakes region of New York,” Robert Beard, executive vice president of natural gas at UGI, said. “Our growing investment in Cayuga RNG demonstrates UGI’s continuing commitment to the development of environmentally responsible energy sources and is consistent with our stated goal of significantly reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Overall, this brings UGI’s total commitment to renewable natural gas projects to over $100 million.”
UGI, through its subsidiaries, operates natural gas and electric utilities in Pennsylvania, and natural gas utilities in West Virginia.
