Georgia Power rolls out program to help businesses acquire EV infrastructure

In an effort to increase electric vehicle adoption and, in turn, increase its viability, Georgia Power has launched the Make Ready Electric Transportation Program, which offers an avenue for businesses to apply for funding help with electric vehicle infrastructure.

Under the program terms, Georgia Power will install, own and maintain any behind the meter infrastructure needed to support charging systems at applicable businesses, as well as manufacturing and corporate facilities. Customers can also navigate the implementation process alongside Georgia Power, working with the company to choose the specific chargers and installers they want to buy.

“Our team of electric transportation experts is helping “drive Georgia forward” in providing turnkey solutions for our business customers with a variety of different electric technologies that qualify for funding assistance,” Stephanie Gossman, Electric Transportation manager at Georgia Power, said. “Through programs created with the support of the Georgia Public Service Commission, National Drive Electric Week is the perfect time for customers to explore the benefits and savings available through electric transportation, while also reaching their sustainability initiatives.”

Today, the state of Georgia hosts approximately 30,000 electric vehicles and 930 public charging stations, making it one of the country’s largest markets for fast charging. Beyond the confines of the state’s borders, more than 116 million such vehicles are expected on roads by 2030. Georgia Power already offers charging stations, a special Plug-In electric vehicle rate plan and charger rebates, but envisions the Make Ready program as a means to further the electric transition across industry, from cars and trucks, to buses, forklifts, fleets and more.

Current participants in the Make Ready program include organizations such as Reinhardt University, the city of Savannah Public Works and the Atlanta Farmers Market, among others.
