Dominion Energy incentivizing South Carolina agricultural businesses to reduce energy usage

A swath of new financial incentives for commercial dairy, poultry, swine, grain operations and agribusinesses in South Carolina were recently rolled out by Dominion Energy in an effort to encourage greater energy efficiency and reduction of energy usage.

It’s part of an expansion to an existing program: EnergyWise for Your Business.

“Agriculture is a big part of South Carolina, and we are excited to expand this successful program to meet the needs of these customers by finding the best solution for their operations,” Annika Goodson, program manager, said. “Projects will require pre-approval to qualify, so customers should connect with us before beginning a project. That way, we can help them determine the best approach to optimize the available financial incentives.”

If approved, though, thousands of dollars could be made available to qualifying businesses. Projects so far being encouraged by the company include things like heating pads for swine, dairy milk pre-coolers, lighting upgrades and well pump tune-ups, but each business can pursue its own custom, site-specific efforts.

The goal of the larger EnergyWise program is to replace old and inefficient equipment with more modern, energy-efficient technologies. Each customer can earn up to $100,000 in incentives per eligible project type from Dominion Energy, per year. Applicable types are divided into lighting, HVAC, food service and custom offerings. The two things uniting any such projects are that they must show proven energy savings and costs.
