NRC selects new senior resident inspector for Susquehanna plant

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) selected Laura Micewski this week to be the new Senior Resident Inspector at the Susquehanna nuclear power plant in Salem Township, Pennsylvania.

Effective Feb. 6, Micewski joins NRC Resident Inspector Travis Daun at the twin-reactor site.

“Laura Micewski is a highly trained and talented inspector who is committed to safety and the NRC’s mission of protecting people and the environment,” Dan Dorman, NRC Region I administrator, said. “In this new assignment, she will play a vital role in assuring that the Susquehanna nuclear power plant continues to meet the high standards set by the agency.”

Micewski most recently worked as a reactor operations engineer in the NRC’s Office of New Reactors. She joined the NRC in 2009 as a project engineer in its regional office in Texas. Before joining the NRC, she served as a Naval Surface Warfare Officer for 14 years. Micewski earned a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from the U.S. Naval Academy and a master’s degree in mechanical engineering from the Naval Postgraduate School.

Every U.S. commercial nuclear plant site has at least two NRC resident inspectors. They conduct inspections, monitor significant work activities and interact with plant workers and with the public.
